Tooting My Own Horn!

Well, I was pleasantly surprised when one of the photographs that I submitted to the 2010 Ryerson University Chang School Photography Exhibit was selected to be displayed.  I was even more honoured when it was selected by the Jury for the Pikto Award of the show!

This photo is from the series of portraits I took in Kabul, Afghanistan in November 2009, which can be seen in the gallery.   Framed, archival pigment on cotton rag prints from this series are available for purchase, either through the Ryerson Gallery, or by contacting me directly.

More Kabul Views

I've been so impressed with the view from my window that I have been doing a lot of panoramas.  The only problem I have has been taking the panos at night, as I didn't bring my tripod.  I've been balancing my camera on the balcony railing on a pillow or some other padding and trying to stay as still as possible for the exposure. The photomerge function in Photoshop CS4 has been doing all of the heavy lifting putting the pieces together...

Room with a View - Kabul

Well, I arrived yesterday in Kabul and after a night of intermittent sleep, I got up to shoot a panorama of dawn our of my hotel room.  Definitely a different view of Kabul than I remember!  Not a bad first attempt, which was done completely handheld, as I didn't have room to pack my tripod.  I must remember next time to shoot it vertical though to maximise the eventual height of the panorama.  Practice makes perfect!

All is safe and sound, despite the reporting in the media, and I am starting onto the elections project.  I will try to keep up a regular update here...Thanks everyone for your well-wishes.
