New Tools - Nikon D7000

New technology is fun, but there is always a price to it, in addition to the actual monetary cost of upgrading things. After a little bit of research, I've retired my faithful D80, which felt like a part of me (when you use it regularly). I had really been looking at a new camera with an improved usability at high ISO, as well as a video capability to experiment with. After weighing the whole full-frame vs DX (crop sensor) issue, I decided that the D7000 couldn't be beat for the money.

I was also presently surprised, that the additional learning cost was minimal, and that using it was almost exactly like using the D80. However, now I can shoot at ISO 1600 like it was ISO 200! I've tried the video capability also, but so far, I'm no Steven Spielberg...

Mill Street Shadows

I was down in the Distillery District last weekend (it was glorious weather) and saw some great shadows cast by the metal sculpture in main courtyard on Mill Street.  The curves in the sculpture have an even more interesting appeal when seen as dark shadows on the cobblestone.  Check them out here.

What to Print?

A couple of excellent articles from the Lens Blog of the NY Times, discussing the issues surrounding whether or not to publish photographs of Military personnel who have been killed.  As always, a very balanced view which evokes thought on the issue on the need to ensure public awareness of issues versus the privacy and dignity of the deceased.  Definitely worth a read.
